F A Q s

Q: What does it cost to frame?
A: Prices vary with size, framing procedures used, and design elements chosen for your particular art piece. We, at Aum Arts will recommend appropriate procedures explaining their benefit as well as offer design options to enhance your artwork.

Q: How long does framing take?
A: Most framing requires minimum 2 working day and maximum one week depending on the quantity & the style of framing..

Q: Do you frame needlework/art objects?
A: Yes. We frame all types of needlework (cross stitch, needlepoint, crewel, hooked rugs, tapestry, and all types of fabric art). We even specialize in framing original paintings/limited editions/art prints/masks/art objects/certificate, etc.

Q: Will you frame my artwork using a frame I bring to you?
A: Absolutely. We are happy to use your antique frame or any framing materials you may already have.

Q: Why do I need a dry mount?
A: This is a procedure used to adhere a print or poster to a stable backing board and guarantees your artwork will not ripple or wave. Despite glass and backing support, without this procedure your print will ripple as it expands and contracts with the changes of temperature and humidity in your home.

Q: Why do frames cost more than pictures?
A: Framing costs cannot be adjusted depending on the value of artwork. If the art you brought in was worth Rs.5000/- your framing cost would be negligible. But your Rs.25/- poster framed in an Rs.500/- frame would probably cost much more than a completed piece of frame if purchased that way from a gallery or a department store.

Q: What about artwork value?
A: That Rs.25/- poster or child's drawing may have little value. But once professionally framed it becomes a crucial design element. A well framed print or poster ends up looking much better than a cheap piece of paper. Put it in a cheap frame, however, and it will remain a cheap poster. And your child's drawing could be the next Picasso! Don't ruin something by improper framing because you think it has little apparent value.

Q: How should I clean my picture framing glass?
A: Most commercial window cleaners are good for cleaning framing glass. Avoid all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, or any cleaner that contains pumice, waxes, or harsh detergents. If your frame contains conservation glass, you should avoid using anything with ammonia (note that some commercial glass cleaners do contain ammonia). Window cleaners with vinegar or vinegar-D work great, and tests indicate that they are safe for any glass. There are several new types of glass coatings coming in the market which make require special care. We will provide specific instructions for these special cases. You should always spray the cleaner on the cloth, then wipe the glass. Otherwise, if you spray directly on the glass, the liquid is likely to run down between the frame and glass, and could eventually wick up the framing package to the artwork.

Q: Where to hang my framed artwork?
A: Picture frames should be displayed at eye level, but consideration must be given to individual needs. Pictures that are planned to be hung very high or low may require special consideration in design of the matting to prevent an optical illusion. Paper borne art is not recommended to be hung in high humidity locations such as bathrooms. It is also not smart to hang it in areas of high airborne pollution such as kitchens, with their grease and cooking pollutants. Avoid direct sunlight. Heat and ultraviolet light will damage artwork fast. Although fireplaces are a popular place to hang art over, consider that heat and soot can contaminate or damage artwork.

Q: How to care an original art piece?
A: Your painting is fragile and the best way to keep is clean is to dust it with a light brush. Do not clean it with a moist rag or any cleaning products. It’s also best not to touch the artwork’s surface with your fingers as the acid and oils from your fingers greatly affect the longevity of the painting. If you have a textured painting, the paint will be brittle so be careful not to touch the artwork’s surface or lean anything against it.

When handling the painting it is best to hold by the hanger itself or by the mounting surface or frame. When moving your paintings around, hold them by their edges & store them vertically against something so that the back of the artwork takes the weight, with the bottom of the artwork rested on a towel or folded sheet to prevent damage or chipping to the mount, frame or painting surface in the event it is an unframed piece
